N.J. – Verizon Wireless launched its latest 3G-equipped netbook, the Hewlett-Packard
Mini 210-1076NR, at $149 after $100 mail-in rebate and two-year data-plan
contract.
The price with a
prepaid data plan is $499.
The 210 replaces
the HP Mini 110, leaving the carrier’s netbook selection at three, a
spokesperson told TWICE.
The new model is
the carrier’s second Windows 7 netbook, this one using the Windows 7 starter
OS. The other Windows 7 netbook, the step-up HP Mini 311, features Windows 7 Home
Premium and is the carrier’s top-of-the-line netbook, launched in October 2009.
In Verizon’s
lineup, the HP Mini 210 is in the middle, with the Windows XP-based Gateway
LT2016u being the company’s base model, a spokesperson explained.
The Mini 210 can
be upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium with a $79.99 purchase from Microsoft.
The new model is
available in Verizon’s stores and Web site and is available to indirect
retailers to sell. Best Buy, however, decided not to sell it, Verizon noted.
Like other Verizon-offered netbooks, the
new model operates at 3G speeds around the world in 850/1900MHz CDMA 1x EV-DO
Rev. A mode in the U.S. and select foreign countries and in 850/1900/2100MHz 3G
HSPA networks in other countries.
The 2.99-pound netbook features 10.1-inch
LED widescreen display, up to 8.75 hours of battery life, Intel Atom processor N450, 1.66GHz processor speed,
1GB RAM, 250GB hard drive, Web cam with integrated digital microphone,
integrated five-in-one digital media reader, built-in Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) and
Bluetooth.
To get the
subsidized netbook price, users must subscribe to a Mobile Broadband pricing
plan. One costs $39.99 per month for 250MB of data, with $0.10/MB overage
charges. A $59.99 plan allows for up to 5GB of monthly data, with $0.05/MB overage
charges.
Consumers who
want to prepay for broadband service by the day, week or month pay the $499.99
unsubsidized price. The prepaid plans charge $15 for 75MB of data for
one day of use, $30 for 250MB for a week’s use, and $50 for a month’s use with
500MB of data.
