Velocity Micro Scoops Up Overdrive PC

Richmond, Va. — PC maker Velocity Micro has entered into an agreement this week to acquire boutique PC manufacturer Overdrive PC to help bolster the former company’s ability to produce high-performance gaming and multimedia computers.

The financial details of the deal were not released, but Randy Copeland, Velocity Micro’s president and CEO, said the brand identities will remain separate, but the two product development teams will work together. Overland PC is known for creating “overclocked” gaming PCs. Overclocking is a method of tweaking a PC’s components to operate well above their original design specifications.

“This partnership enables Velocity Micro to infuse Overdrive methods in Velocity PCs, giving us another performance advantage and improving our brand position even further, Copeland said.

Overdrive PC will relocate its operations to Velocity Micro’s Richmond-area headquarters. Mario Cifaldi, Overdrive’s founder chief technology officer, will stay on board and serve as Velocity’s advanced technologies director and as GM of the new Overdrive PC division.
