Velencell Bringing Biometric Tracking To Ear Buds, More

1/07/2013 07:00:00 PM Eastern

LAS VEGAS — Valencell is exhibiting its PerformTek Precision Biometrics suite, a licensable technology that seamlessly integrates into ear buds or other form factors and extracts biometric data from a wearer.

Data such as continuous heart rate and energy expenditure can then be pushed to an existing compatible smartphone app on a portable device.

Valencell recently announced a partnership with Samsin, a South Korea-based headset contract manufacturer for OEMs. Samsin is now an approved manufacturer of ear buds incorporating PerformTek’s technology and enables licensees to use Samsin as their contract manufacturer and accelerate their time to market, Valencell said. Samsin will help Valencell’s licensees design, develop, test and manufacture their products.

Metrics the technology measures include heart rate, speed, distance, pace, cadence, calories burned and aerobic fitness.

Ear buds powered by PerformTek will be available to consumers this year.

Valencell is exhibiting in booth 26315.
