U.S. Cellular, Alltell To Offer Prepaid Brand Via Walmart

Bentonville, Ark. – Regional
carriers U.S. Cellular and Alltell Wireless teamed up to offer prepaid service
under the U Prepaid brand through select Walmart stores in 18 states.

Depending on where subscribers
live, the U Prepaid service will run on either U.S. Cellular’s network or
Alltel’s network.

U.S. Cellular teamed with Alltell
to gain distribution in Walmart and provide U.S. Cellular “another opportunity
to be where our customers want to shop and to offer more customers a prepaid
service that helps them control their monthly budgets,” said Carter S.
Elenz, U.S. Cellular’s EVP of sales and customer service.

For its part, Alltell chief
marketing officer Lesa Handly said Alltell lent its U Prepaid brand to the
initiative to “leverage our position as the ‘local’ wireless carrier offering a
hometown alternative in the communities we serve.”

Four U Prepaid devices are
available. One is the Android-based Samsung Repp touchscreen smartphone. The LG
Attune/LG Exchange and LG Saber are feature phones with full QWERTY keyboards,
and the Samsung Chrono is a flip phone.
