Uniden Begins Production In Vietnam

Fort Worth, Texas — Cordless phone maker Uniden has begun production in a new factory in Vietnam.

According to president Brendan Morris, the 1 million square-foot facility located in the Tan Truong Industrial Zone in the northern province of Hai Duong will compliment a similar factory in South China.

Each factory can produce 30 million units per year, for a maximum capacity of 60 million units. They will manufacture the full line of Uniden products including cordless phones and GPS systems.

Morris said that the company was attracted to Vietnam for its lower labor costs. “The labor market in South China is pushing a lot of manufacturing growth to Vietnam,” he said.

Earlier this month, Olympus announced plans to build its own factory in Vietnam, citing lower labor costs.
