New York – The nation’s 100-largest CE dealers collectively mounted a 5.8-percent rebound in sales last year to $128.1 billion according to TWICE’s latest Top 100 Retailers report.
Driving those gains in part were stunning performances by the country’s two largest booksellers. Amazon.com leapfrogged Target, Costco, Gamestop and Dell with a 75-percent sales spurt to become the nation’s No. 4 ranking CE retailer, behind only Best Buy, Walmart and Apple.
Meanwhile, explosive sales of Barnes & Noble’s Nook e-reader brought that company into the CE fold with a 300-percent increase in electronics revenue year-over-year.
But the gains obscured the pain felt by most ranking dealers, many of whom showed high single- and low double-digit sales declines as prices fell, showrooms were shut and consumers continued to stay away.
The annual report, produced with research partner The Stevenson Company, includes the Top 100 listings, breakouts by distribution channel, marketplace analyses, and dealer data and synopses for each ranking retailer.
