Alviso, Calif. — TiVo is preparing for the holiday shopping season by announcing a new limited-time pricing structure promotion on new activations.
The new pricing structure will be available through Feb. 2, 2008, and applies only to new activations after the first-time TiVo DVR purchase. Existing customers will see no change to their current pricing plans, unless they’ve made a first-time TiVo purchase in the past 30 days, the company said.
However, existing customers will be able to take advantage of a Product Lifetime Service plan if they buy an additional qualifying TiVo DVR. The offer will allow current customers to pay a one-time fee of $399 (in addition to the price of the hardware) for service for a newly purchased secondary box for the lifetime of the product. That offer will not be available to new subscribers, TiVo said.
To take advantage of the Product Lifetime Service offer, subscribers must be current TiVo customers with a qualifying DVR, and they must purchase a new TiVo DVR on the same account as existing boxes. The lifetime subscription cannot be transferred and applies only to the new box activation.
Under the limited-time service fee for new activations, new TiVo customers who commit to one-year of service will pay a $12.95 monthly fee (originally $16.95 per month). The fee reductions will not extend to two-year or three-year service commitments.
However, those who opt to prepay for a full year of service will pay $129 and save $50. Those who opt to for two years will pay $249 and save $30. The three year prepay rate is unchanged at $299.
TiVo also said it is making a permanent price change to its Multi-Service Discount (MSD) pricing plans.
Existing customers will now be offered “consistent pricing” for any additional TiVo DVR (up to five DVRs). The new MSD 1-year monthly fee is $9.95 per month, and the MSD one-year prepay fee is $99.
