THX Helps Develop 3D Eye Clinic

 San Rafael, Calif. –

THX

in association with the College of Optometry
will open the world’s first 3D Performance Eye Clinic on Oct. 6.

Located in Beaverton, Ore., the 3D Performance Clinic will employ
state-of-the-art technologies (including a 3D theater with THX Certified
equipment) and 3D expertise to diagnose and treat eye coordination problems
affecting 3D vision.

Research findings from this work will be used to help the
entertainment and CE industries (among others) to better understand 3D health
related issues, enabling new products and content to provide an enhanced
consumer experience, THX said.

This is especially critical in the 3D market, as stigmas
regarding comfort and performance are overcome.

The Eye Clinic will use the benefits of controlled lighting,
optimized viewing angles and freedom from visual distractions.

Housed in the clinic is a movie theater, which will measure
binocular vision performance while viewing 3D content.

THX said measuring binocular vision is important to help diagnose
and treat eye coordination problems as the ability of both eyes, independently
and together, must work simultaneously to process visual information smoothly
and effortlessly with no discomfort — improving the 3D experience in real life
applications.

To help drive the research performed at the clinic,
state-of-the-art equipment is needed and was sourced by THX, totaling nearly
$40,000 in retail value.

A number of THX partners and vendors, including Intel, Nike and
Planar Systems, were credited with making numerous contributions to the
project.  Additionally, THX helped source
THX Certified products from partners for the 3D Performance Clinic including:
