Thin Pantech Slate Targets Heavy Texters

Atlanta — Pantech Wireless is targeting heavy texters with what it bills as the world’s thinnest phone with a QWERTY keyboard.

The Pantech Slate, available through AT&T at $49.99 with two-year contract after $50 mail-in rebate, measures 4.2 inches by 2.5 inches by 0.39 inches and weighs 3.2 ounces.

The GSM/GPRS/EDGE quadband phone, which features fixed QWERTY keyboard, is designed mainly for sending text and pictures and accessing instant-messaging services, the company said. It also features Multimedia functionality including support of AT&T’s MEdia Net and custom content

Other features include 2.2-inch 260K TFT (176 by 220-pixel) screen, 1.3-megapixel camera/camcorder, speakerphone, voice memo recording, music ringtone clips in multiple audio formats, downloadable Java apps, Bluetooth and Web browsing.

Other recent Pantech introductions include the Pantech duo and Matrix dual-sliding, dual-keyboard phones.
