Target, Walmart Taking Nintendo DS Trade-Ins

Minneapolis – Target
and Walmart will begin accepting trade-ins of pre-owned Nintendo DS handheld
game players.

The offer is an
inducement for customers to trade up to the new 3DS model, a glasses-free 3D
player that debuts at midnight on March 27.

Target will offer up to a
$50 store credit for used, working-condition handhelds, which can be used
toward any purchase. The exchange is offered through Target’s Electronics
Trade-In service, which is available at its RadioShack-operated in-store mobile
departments and online at

Target.com

. The service also accepts pre-owned cell phones, iPods and video games.

 “Target always aims
to offer guests the hottest brands in electronics for an exceptional value,”
said merchandising VP Nik Nayar. “The Nintendo 3DS is one of the most
anticipated new products to debut this spring and by expanding our trade-in
options, we are offering Target’s guests incredible savings on all the latest
gadgets.”

 Target is also
supporting the 3DS launch by installing “trial stations” in 1,200 stores
nationwide.

 Meanwhile, Walmart
will offer a credit of up to $100 for used DS models, and will accept up to two
units at a time, if used toward the purchase of a new 3DS.  The offer will
only be available in Walmart stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia,
Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and
South Carolina, and will run through April 30 or while supplies last.

Meanwhile, Best Buy is

heralding
the debut

of 3DS by holding launch parties at several stores across the
country on Saturday night.
