9/17/2008 04:44:00 PM Eastern

Minneapolis — Sony’s Reader Digital Book became available at Target stores nationwide this week.

This is not the first major retail rollout for the product as it was already available through Best Buy, Borders, Costco and others; however, a spokesperson did tell twice that the Target launch is the “largest” for the product to date. The spokesperson also said the company is planning to announce additional new retailers for the product in coming weeks and months.

The company’s PRS-505 model will be featured in the “Discovery Hub” endcap in the electronics section of all 1,634 Target stores. The endcap will also feature a variety of Reader accessories including eBook Store prepaid cards, covers, an AC charger and more.

According to a spokesperson, consumers who purchase a Reader will receive a coupon code to download a free copy of “The Other Queen,” by Philippa Gregory, from the eBook Store by Sony. The book was released Sept. 16.
