Tablet Display Resolution To Increase In 2012

Santa Clara, Calif. – The tablet PC category will gain
higher-resolution displays in 2012, according to NPD DisplaySearch.

DisplaySearch is predicting tablet display resolution will
increase by 78 pixels per inch (ppi). Going from 134 ppi in November 2011 to
212 ppi the following year.

At the same time, display resolution for desktop monitors,
notebooks and netbooks will remain essentially static, the company said.

“Rapid growth in multimedia usage of tablet PCs is driving
panel makers to upgrade the resolution of tablet PC panels,” said David Hsieh,
greater China market VP for NPD DisplaySearch.

This trend will allow panel makes to boost their average
selling price for tablet displays.
