T-Mobile Expands HSPA+ Network, Product Selection

Bellevue, Wash. – T-Mobile expanded its HSDPA+
high-speed data network, expanded its selection of HSPA+ products, and launched
an ad campaign touting its HSPA+ network as “America’s largest 4G network.”

The new HSPA+ products are the previously
announced Android 2.2-based HTC-made MyTouch 4G, available at $199 with
two-year contract, and the newly announced Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook,
available at $229 with two-year contract. The latter joins a 3G Mini 10 now
priced at $49.99 on the carrier’s website.

The new HSPA+ products join the HTC-made G2,
an Android 2.2 phone that became the carrier’s first HSPA+ phone on Oct. 6 at
$199.

The MyTouch 4G is available today through
T-Mobile retail stores, the carrier’s website, and third-party retailers
including Best Buy, Costco, RadioShack, Sam’s Club and Target. T-Mobile didn’t
specify 4G netbook distribution, but the product is available on the carrier’s
website.

In expanding its
4G network, the carrier added six more markets for a total of 75. The new
markets are Chicago; Colorado Springs, Colo.; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Louisville,
Ky.; and Raleigh-Durham and Wilmington in North Carolina. The carrier continues
to target a year-end 4G footprint that will reach 200 million people in 100
markets, and it reiterated plans to deploy multicarrier HSPA+ in 2011 to
effectively double its HSPA+ download speeds.

In launching its 4G ad campaign, T-Mobile said
it began today to air commercials on major TV networks and cable TV stations,
including ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and TNT. Ads also are appearing on websites,
including AOL, MSN, Amazon.com and T-Mobile’s

YouTube channel

.

The MyTouch 4G,
which is part of that ad campaign, is the carrier’s first phone with video chat
capability, which can be delivered via Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G through a front-facing
camera and QIK video chat client.

The MyTouch’s
rear-facing 5-megapixel HD camcorder captures 720p video and uses
DLNA-certified Wi-Fi to stream the content to a compatible HDTV or other DLNA
device. Other features include 3.8-inch WVGA touchscreen display with virtual
keyboard and 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

The MyTouch 4G and
current T-Mobile G2 use the Android 2.2 operating system to provide wireless Wi-Fi
tethering to a portable computing device and Wi-Fi Sharing capabilities with
multiple computing devices. The company has launched a $14.99/month Tethering
and Wi-Fi Sharing plan to its $30/month unlimited-data plan for smartphones.

The HSPA+ Dell
Inspiron Mini 10 features 10.1-inch screen and Windows 7 Starter Edition OS, and
a fast processor, the carrier said.

HSPA+ technology
delivers theoretical peak data speeds up to 21Mbps, compared with 7.2Mbps on the
carrier’s 7.2Mbps HSPA network. On the MyTouch 4G, T-Mobile said it has clocked
average download speeds of close to 5Mbps in some cities with peak speeds of almost
12Mbps. Average download speeds of HSPA+ USB modems range between 5Mbps to 8Mbps
with peak speeds up to 8Mbps to 10Mbps, the carrier said in citing independent
reviewers.

Multicarrier HSPA+
will exceed those speeds by merging two 5MHz downlink channels, enabling
T-Mobile to deliver download speeds at a theoretical 42Mbps, making them
comparable to those of 4G LTE networks now starting to come online, the carrier
contended.
