T-Mobile Doubles 4G Speeds in 55 Markets

Bellevue, Wash. – T-Mobile doubled the data speeds in 55 of its 4G markets to a theoretical 42Mbps and announced its first 42Mbps product, a USB modem.

The carrier’s 4G HSPA+ markets reach more than 200 million people in 170 markets, and by midyear, the carrier expects to expand the 4G network’s 42Mbps capabilities – using HSPA+42 technology, to markets reaching more than 150 million people.

The 42Mbps product is ZTE-made T-Mobile Rocket 3.0, a swiveling USB modem retailing for $99.99 with two-year contract starting Wednesday. In T-Mobile stores, the price is after $50 rebate. Qualifying postpaid data plans start at $29.99, with a 20 percent discount offered to subscribers with qualifying voice-service plan. Prepaid service is also available for the modem, boosting the modem’s price to $199.

The 55 markets in which 42Mbps service has been launched include Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Portland in Oregon and San Francisco.
