Survey: Intent To Buy Higher In PNDs, Cameras Vs MP3

7/21/2010 11:21:51 AM Eastern

Alpharetta, Ga. -  MarketSource surveyed adult cellphone owners
about their future intent to buy portable digital devices and found interest to
be higher in PNDs and digital cameras than in MP3 players.

MarketSource found that 80 percent of all adult
phone owners already own a separate MP3 player and that only 5 percent of
phone-owning adults will likely or definitely buy an MP3 player in the next
year. (See Table 4.)

A total of 35
percent of phone-owning adults own a PND, with 22 percent likely or definitely
planning to buy a PND in the next year. And 64 percent of adult phone owners own
a separate digital camera, with 22 percent likely or definitely planning to buy
a camera in the next 12 months.

A total of 25 percent of adult phone owners own
a touchscreen phone, and 29 percent say they will likely or definitely buy a
touchscreen phone in the next year. Of those interested in buying a touchscreen
phone, however, only 34 percent said they would still be interested if they
were required by a carrier to buy a minimum $9.99/month data plan to go with
it.

Of the 505 adult respondents, 73 percent were
female. Thirty-eight percent had a college degree. Twenty-two percent had a
graduate degree. Twenty-eight percent had some college education, and 12
percent had a high-school education.

Twenty-four percent had household incomes of
more than $100,000. Twenty-one percent had household incomes of more than
$75,000 but less than $100,000. Twenty-six percent had incomes of more than
$50,000 but less than $75,000. And 22 percent had incomes of more than $25,000
but less than $50,000.
