Stereo One Joins HTSA

Cape Girardeau, Mo.- Stereo One, a four-unit A/V and mobile audio specialty chain based here, has joined the Home Theater Specialists of America (HTSA), becoming the buying group’s 48th member.

Principal John Selby said he joined the organization partly because of its efforts to help strengthen the relationship between specialty retailers and vendors. ‘Vendors too often seek the help of mass merchants with wide distribution due to lack of performance by independent retailers,’ he said. ‘As this retailer-vendor relationship grows and open dialog follows, association with vendors can be true, predictable, and long term.’

HTSA executive director Richard Glikes noted that the addition of Stereo One represents the ‘genesis of HTSA filling in the gaps in the country. HTSA will have qualified members like Stereo One in every state. We plan on having 65 to 70 members by year end.’

Stereo One operates four stores in southeast Missouri and southern Illinois, two of which carry mobile audio only. Selby’s first location, opened here in 1973, is now 17,000 square feet in size, and a fifth unit, slated for 8,100 square feet, will open this summer in Springfield, Mo. The $10 million-plus business specializes in upper mid- to high-end A/V products, with a strong emphasis on custom installation.
