Staples Partners With SquareTrade

FRAMINGHAM, MASS. — Staples has selected SquareTrade as its extended-service plan provider.

According to the pact, announced earlier this month, SquareTrade will provide extended coverage for products ranging from computers and printers to tablets to furniture at the chain’s more than 1,500 retail stores and online at Staples.com.

“We are thrilled to partner with Staples and make SquareTrade protection plans and our unique service available to millions of new customers,” said SquareTrade president/CEO Steve Abernethy. Added Staples’ technology merchandising senior VP Scott Rankin, “Staples’ commitment to putting the customer shopping experience first aligns with SquareTrade’s reputation for innovation, quality and world class service.”

Indeed, SquareTrade has earned accolades for its low-price plans and hassle-free service, and has been a disruptive force within the extended warranty sector. The business began in 1999 as a dispute mediator for eBay, and six years later started offering after-market service plans direct to consumers online. Its branded programs have since been adopted by retailers and manufacturers including Amazon.com, Costco, Panasonic, TigerDirect, Vizio and now Staples. SquareTrade claimed its retail partners achieve a 200 percent increase in sales on average, as well as “happier customers.”
