Sprint Launches EV-DO Rev. A Handset

Overland Park, Kan. — Sprint has begun offering the industry’s first CDMA 1x EV-DO Rev. A-capable handset with the availability of a software upgrade available for HTC’s Mogul.

Mogul, introduced in June 2007, is a touchscreen-equipped PDA phone incorporating the Windows Mobile 6 Profession Edition OS. A software ROM and downloading instructions are available at www.america.htc.com/mogulupdate.

EV-DO Rev. A technology raises average download speeds over standard EV-DO handsets from 400Kbps to 700 Kbps, to 600Kbps to 1.4 Mbps. Average upload speeds increase from 50Kbps to 70Kbps, to 350Kbps to 500Kbps, Sprint said.

Sprint’s EV-DO network reaches more than 234 million people, 13,453 cities and 1,321 airports, and the “vast majority” have been upgraded to the faster EV-DO Rev. A technology, the carrier said.

The free software download also provides advanced GPS functionality allowing support of popular applications such as Sprint Navigation turn-by-turn directions.

The Mogul is available in Sprint Stores, online at www.sprint.com and in Sprint business sales channels for $199 with a two-year service agreement and a $100 mail-in-rebate.
