Seacacus, N.J. — Sony announced two new DVD camcorders, the DCR-DVD101 and DCR-DVD201, to serve as replacements for the DVD100 and 200.
Both models will ship in April and record video and stills to 3-inch DVD-R/RW media. Other common features include a 10X optical/120X digital zoom lens, Super SteadyShot picture stabilization, USB 2.0 connectivity, a new NightShot Plus mode that allows for improved dark-light shooting, and a 2.5-inch SwivelScreen hybrid LCD display with a start/stop record button on the frame of the screen. The camcorders also offer a mini joystick controller on the body for navigating through the menu.
Both the DVD101 and 201 snap JPEG still images. The DVD101 (retailing for approximately $900) takes VGA images, while the DVD201 ($1,000) offers a 1-megapixel imager for higher resolution video and stills.
Pixela ImageMixer software will be bundled with both units.
