Sony Unveils SXRD 3D Projector Abroad

UPDATED!

San Diego –

Sony

said Friday that it will ship a new
affordably priced SXRD 3D projector in the U.S. next month at a $3,699
suggested retail.

The VPL-HW30ES,
will feature 240Hz “SXRD” (LCoS) technology and improved Full HD 1080p 3D
support at a more affordable price than last year’s $10,000 VPL-VW90ES.

Other features
include a 70,000:1 contrast ratio, 1,300 lumens of brightness and an improved
3D system that is said to reduce crosstalk.

For 3D, Sony said
it is offering optional new lighter active-shutter 3D eyewear and an add-on IR
sync device.

The new glasses,
model TDG-PJ1 ($129.99 suggested retail), are said to weigh 18 grams less than
the previous model (59 grams compared with 77 grams). They can be charged in 30
minutes to provide 30 hours of continuous watching. The new emitter, the
TMR-PJ1 ($79.99), automatically synchronizes 3D content to generate a
high-quality natural 3D effect from the new glasses, Sony said.

The VPL-HW30ES is
also capable of taking 2D video and simulating 3D images to expand the 3D
content possibilities.
