Sony Unveils PSPgo Bluetooth Accessory

9/24/2009 03:00:00 PM Eastern

Tokyo - Sony
Computer Entertainment revealed here Wednesday it will release a Bluetooth stereo
headset receiver and converter cable adaptor for its PSPgo in the U.S., to
support the release of the new PlayStation Portable device beginning in
January.

The accessories
will first ship on Dec. 24, in Japan, at a recommended retail 4,980 yen ($55)
and 1,980 yen ($22) (both including tax), respectively, before rolling out to
other international markets, Sony said.

Sony previously announced it will soon release
the PSPgo, which is a new version of its PSP that omits the UMD disc player
slot in favor of relying on new video games that would be downloaded to Memory
Sticks through the device.

The Bluetooth
stereo headset receiver is said to have a sleek design that matches the PSPgo
device. Users will be able to enjoy a variety of entertainment content sounds
comfortably through the Bluetooth wireless technology with the combination of a
commercially available headphone and headset (headset not included), according
to the company.

The Bluetooth stereo
headset receiver pairs easily with PSPgo by holding the power button of the receiver,
and operation buttons on the receiver will also enable users to play, stop,
pause, forward, rewind, and adjust the volume of music and videos.

Additionally,
the receiver can be paired with up to eight Bluetooth devices by using the multi-pairing
feature.

The converter cable
adaptor will enable use of existing peripherals for the PSP designed for PSP-1000,
2000 and 3000 series on the PSPgo system that adopts the multi-use connector.

Sony said additional
multiple peripherals and accessories will be released for PSPgo in conjunction
with the PSPgo launch in North America to enhance portability and convenience,
including: cradle, $29.99 (suggested retail); A/V cable, $19.99; component A/V cable,
$29.99; USB cable, $14.99; AC adaptor, $14.99; display protection film (two
pack), $9.99; traveler case (in Lake Blue and black), $19.99; soft carrying case,
$14.99; in-ear headset, $19.99; 2GB Memory Stick Micro + Duo Adaptor, $19.99; a
