Sony Unveils HD PC/TV

New York – Sony today introduced a Vaio entertainment hub HD PC/TV and two new
notebooks, including the Vaio X series that weighs in at 1.6 pounds.

The Vaio L Touch HD PC/TV
is centered around a 24W-inch WUXGA resolution touchscreen panel that displays
FullHD resolution. The unit will come in several configurations with a base
price of $1,300.

The company said select
models will feature a Blu-ray Disc optical drive, and a BD rewritable drive is
also available. Other features can include a built-in TV tuner to receive
over-the-air HDTV signals, and the L Touch can add an HDMI input, allowing the
unit to connect through a set-top box, satellite receiver or PlayStation3.

The unit’s DVR can store
100 hours of HD content.

The PC part of the product
is powered by an Intel Core 2 Quad processor, built-in 802.11n and the upcoming
Windows 7 Home Premium operating system.

Sony is taking pre-orders
for the L Touch starting Oct. 8, and it will ship to retail in November, the
company said.

The X-series ultra-portable
notebook, shipping today, is built on a carbon fiber chassis that is 0.55 inches
thick; it will be available in gold and black. It has an LED backlit, scratch-resistant
11.1-inch display. Battery life is 3.5 hours
with the standard battery pack and 14 hours with the extended capacity battery.

Other features include onboard
3G mobile broadband provided by Verizon, (subscription required) and Bluetooth.
The notebook has GPS functionality through the cellular service.

Starting suggested retail is
$1,300.

The final introduction is
the Vaio CW-series notebooks. The CW is a conventionally sized device featuring
a 14-inch widescreen, Nvidia GeForce graphics, an HDMI output and an optional
Blu-ray player. The notebook is available in fiery red, poppy pink, icy white,
jet black and indigo purple.

It will ship at the end of
October with a starting price of $780.
