Sony Reveals Highly-Featured Updates To Fall CE Lineup

New York – It’s “IFA in New York” today for Sony Electronics as it is in the process of debuting 4K TVs and related products, Vaio | Flip PCs and the Xperia Z 4G LTE tablet and other products at Jazz at Lincoln Center, here, at Columbus Circle.

Phil Molyneux, president / COO of Sony Electronics, provided an overview of a variety of products that the company will begin selling this month and later in the year that are distinctive not only to their features but their style.

Here is a brief summary of what was introduced:

Sony 4K Ultra HD Media Player (FMP-X1) download service went live on Saturday before the end of the summer, “Just as we had predicted back at CES in January,” Molyneux said.

Sony Entertainment Network’s Video Unlimited 4K download service is offering 70 feature films and TV shows with more than 100 available by the end of the year in native 4K Ultra HD resolution for download to consumers with a Sony Ultra HD Media Player and Sony 4K Ultra HD TV.

Owners of the Sony 4K Ultra HD Media Player (FMP-X1) will receive updated content over the internet, enabling them to rent or purchase movies or programs.

The cost for TV episodes is $3.99, while feature films start at $7.99 for a 24-hour rental, or $29.99 for a purchase. Select purchased titles include an UltraViolet digital version of the movie or TV show, enabling consumers to further enjoy their content on the go (in high definition or standard definition).

Two more 4K TVs have been introduced by Sony – the XBR-55X850A (55-inch) and XBR-65X850A (65-inch). They will be available next month through Sony Stores and select authorized retailers nationwide for $3,499 and $4,999 respectively. Pre-orders are being accepted now at: www.sony.com/newTVs

The world’s first curved screen LED television, according to Sony, was unveiled. The model KDL-65S990A will be available in October at Sony Stores and select electronics retailers nationwide for $3,999.99. The KDL-65S990A, combines curved visual panel with Sony’s Triluminos Display color system “for accurate, deep, vibrant colors, and a powerful angled surround sound speaker system to complete the home theater like never before,” Sony said.

The Xperia Tablet Z 4G LTE is now available in the U.S. and is an unlocked tablet that allows customers to stay connected with LTE on the go, while offering contract-free wireless service, control over monthly wireless expenses and international flexibility, Sony said.

The 10.1-inch tablet, which Sony claims is the thinnest and lightest LTE unit, is powered by Mobile Bravia Engine 2, the Xperia Tablet Z delivers color reproduction for a HD TV-like viewing experience.

The Xperia Tablet Z features a quad-core processor for speed, brilliant graphics and NFC (Near Field Communication) technology which features One-Touch  Connection that lets users wirelessly transfer content to compatible TVs, smartphones and speakers with one tap. And with 4G LTE connectivity, users can stay connected at home or on the go.

The Xperia Tablet Z 4G LTE is available now in 16 GB for about $629 at Sony stores and online at store.sony.com/tablet.

VAIO | Flip PCs feature the flexibility of a convertible with the computing power of a traditional clamshell PC, what the company calls “the world’s thinnest Windows 8 tablet with Intel Core Processor family, the VAIO Tap 11 Tablet PC,” and the next evolution of the mobile all-in-one PC, VAIO Tap 21, Sony said.

Available in 13-inch, 14-inch and 15-inch models, VAIO | Flip PC is available in both black and silver aluminum and features a full pitch backlit keyboard, gesture enabled touch pad and palm rest for comfortable typing. VAIO | Flip PC includes a USB 3.0 port capable of charging personal devices on the go even when the computer is powered down or in sleep mode.

The VAIO Fit 13A | Flip PC weighs a mere 2.6 lbs. The 14- and 15-inch VAIO | Flip PC weigh 4.2 pounds and 4.6 pounds, respectively.

The VAIO Tap 21, which succeeds the VAIO Tap 20 which was the first portable all-in-one tabletop PC now features a freestyle stand which allows users to easily change the angle of the screen with one hand. Thanks to the internal battery, VAIO Tap 21 can be carried around the home or laid flat on a coffee table for the whole family to play games on the large screen.

Users can also stand VAIO Tap 21 upright and use it as a fully-functioning desktop PC to work on documents, surf the web and check emails or use the device to display a presentation with the supplied wireless keyboard and mouse, Sony said.

MDR-10 headphones are available in digital noise canceling, Bluetooth wireless with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and standard versions.

The MDR-10R standard headphones and MDR-10RNC digital noise canceling headphones will be available in October 2013 while the MDR-10RBT Bluetooth wireless headphones will be available in November at Sony Stores, including online at http://store.sony.com, and other authorized retailers nationwide at the following suggested retail prices: MDR-10RNC, $269.99, MDR-10RBT, $249.99 and MDR-10R, $199.99.
