Sony Intros Light Vaio BD Laptop

San Diego — Sony today unveiled the Vaio TT Series notebook, its lightest to offer Blu-ray, at 2.87 pounds and is less than 1-inch thick.

Models featuring Blu-ray Disc can record, store and playback personal content on BD media. The laptop can also play Blu-ray Disc movies in full HD 1080p when connected to a compatible HDTV through the machine’s HDMI output connector; a connector cable is sold separately.

The TT features an 11.1-inch widescreen display with Sony’s XBRITE-DuraView LCD technology for enhanced color saturation and screen brightness.

The machine runs on an Intel Centrino 2 processor.

Select notebooks feature a dual-channel 256GB solid-state drive with RAID technology.

The device is also capable of incorporating Wide Area Network (WAN) technology provided by the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network with EV-DO Revision A; a separate Sprint service subscription is required to use this feature.

The notebook comes with a choice of Windows Vista Home Premium, Vista Business and Vista Ultimate operating systems with Windows XP Professional available on certain models.

According to Sony, all models are Energy Star 4.0 compliant and hold an EPEAT Silver Ranking.

The Vaio TT notebooks will be available in the fall with prices starting at $2,000 for a basic model, $2,700 for the BD version and $2,750 for the SSD model. It will be offered in premium carbon black, silk black, champagne gold and crimson red.
