Atlanta – Sony Ericsson’s
Xperia Arc, promoted as the world’s thinnest smartphone, is coming to the U.S.
in August following a launch in other countries earlier this year.
The Android 2.3-based
phone will be available only as an unlocked model, raising the price to up to
$599.
The Arc is only
0.34 inches thick at its slimmest point and features a 4.2-inch multitouch display.
The device will be
available August through Sony Retail stores and
at $599. It will also
be available through Amazon.com, Newegg.com, and Buy.com at prices and availability
dates that weren’t disclosed by Sony Ericsson.
The handset will be offered in Midnight Blue
through Sony’s outlets and in Midnight Blue and Misty Silver through Newegg.com,
Buy.com and Amazon.com.
The phone operates
in 3G HSPA mode in the U.S. 800/850/1,900MHz bands as well as in the overseas
2.1GHz band, optimizing it for use on AT&T’s U.S. network. The device features
4.2-inch 854by 480-pixel multitouch touchscreen with Sony’s proprietary Reality
Display and Mobile Bravia Engine, 1GHz Qualcomm processor, DLNA certification,
Wi-Fi, assisted GPS, 8.1-megapixel camera with 720p HD video capture, built-in
HDMI connector to share pictures and HD videos on a TV screen, 512MB of
embedded memory, included 8GB MicroSD card, FM tuner, and Sony Exmor R CMOS
sensor for low-light capture of pictures and HD video.
Like other Son yEricsson
phones, the handset also features Timescape, which consolidates all types of
messages with a particular person, whether SMS, email, Facebook, Twitter or
pictures.
Other key features include stereo Bluetooth, FM tuner and Microsoft Exchange
ActiveSync.
