Sony Debut Pair Of Digital Cameras

9/11/2006 10:19:00 AM Eastern

San Diego — Sony launched a pair of new digital cameras today, both featuring 3-inch touch screen LCDs and in-camera photo slide show creation.

The Cyber-shot DSC-T50 and DSC-N2 will offer scratch resistant, 230k pixel touch sensitive LCD screens, which allowed Sony to ditch some dedicated camera buttons for a more streamlined look. Both are also capable of creating in-camera slideshows with music and transition effects.

The 7-megapixel T50 will be the top of the line product in the company’s thin T-series. It features a 3x optical zoom Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar lens, 10 scene modes, 56MB of internal memory and supports Memory Stick DUO and Pro DUO cards up to 4GB. Depending on memory capacity, the camera can play back up to 1,100 images in a slideshow format.

It offers Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization and light sensitivity to ISO 1000.

With the supplied InfoLithium battery, the T50 can shoot up to 400 images per charge.

The T50 will ship in October in red, black and silver for an estimated retail price of $500.

The 10-megapixel DSC-N2 also features a 3x optical Carl Zeiss zoom lens, eight scene modes, and built-in slide show creation for playing back up to 500 images. Every time the camera snaps an image it saves a VGA resolution copy to internal memory to create an on-board photo album. It boasts light sensitivities to ISO 1600.

With the supplied InfoLithium battery the N2 can snap up to 300 shots per charge.

The N2 will be available in gold in October for an estimated $450.
