Sony Back In Online Photo Category

9/04/2008 10:43:00 AM Eastern

San Diego — Sony announced that it is re-entering the online digital photography category with its new Digital Darkroom Web site.

The community-oriented site will feature forums, tutorials and an “assignment gallery” where users can post photos to illustrate various photo techniques. It is part of Sony’s online “Backstage 101” initiative to provide educational resources to consumers.

Sony will launch the site with a contest, offering a drawing with Sony Style gift cards in $500, $300 and $200 denominations for consumers who post images to public or assignment galleries.

In February of this year, Sony shuttered its ImageStation online photo Web site, transferring its members to Shutterfly. Unlike ImageStation, the new Darkroom site does not offer prints or merchandise.a
