SMS Adds Bluetooth Headphones

DELRAY BEACH, FLA. — SMS Audio made its third product introduction of the month, this time unveiling on-ear versions of its Sync by 50 wireless headphones.

The company also announced a partnership with Rhapsody that provides two months of free service with the purchase of select SMS Audio devices.

The newest headphones, on-ear versions of the Sync by 50 headphones, use Bluetooth 4.0 technology, rather than Kleer like the over-ear model. When asked why the company decided to go with Bluetooth this time, a spokeswoman told TWICE: “Bluetooth technology was developed for telecommunication needs, and when early Bluetooth formats were adapted for music use, they were notorious for degrading sound quality. With advancements in the technology, Bluetooth products are now able to transmit high-quality hi-fi sound without the need for an external transmitter, which is why our product, Sync by 50 on-ear wireless headphones, incorporates Bluetooth 4.0 AptX technology.”

The over-ear version will continue to use Kleer technology, she said.

Other features include 40mm drivers with onboard controls, foldable design, included cable with in-line mic and controls, and memory-foam ear cushions. Frequency response is listed at 20Hz to 20kHz, with impedance at 32 ohms and max input power of 125mW.

Play time is said to be 12 hours; they charge via MicroUSB port. Two colors will be offered — Cool Silver and Shadow Black — for a $229 suggested retail.

A hard carry case and cleaning cloth are included.

Last week, SMS Audio also announced it had partnered with the Rhapsody music-streaming service to offer a 60-day subscription for its Premier-level service with the purchase of select SMS Audio products.

Participating devices include the Street by 50 on-ear headphones, Street by 50 over-ear active noise-canceling headphones, and the Sync by 50 wireless speaker.
