New York – Dealers including Best
Buy, Walmart and online startup TheCheapPhoneShop.com are offering a plethora
of smartphone promotions this month.

On Aug. 12-14, Best Buy will offer a 20 percent discount off any set of Beats by Dr. Dre headphones with the purchase of any HTC smartphone. The promotion, the first to follow yesterday’s announced strategic partnership between HTC and Beats Electronics, will be only be offered at Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores.

At Walmart, a week-long
back-to-college promotion beginning Aug. 14 will knock down prices on Sharp’s
FX Plus for AT&T, to $28.88; Samsung’s T139 for Walmart’s prepaid Family
Mobile service, to  $54.96; Samsung’s
Galaxy S 4G for T-Mobile, to $78.88; HTC’s Droid Incredible 2 for Verizon, to
$148; and Nokia’s E-5 for the prepaid Straight Talk service to $199.

Other CE sale items at Walmart will
include the Nook Color with 7-inch display for $249, Acer’s 8GB tablet with
7-inch display for $328, and a Toshiba 17.3-inch laptop with 4GB of memory and
a 320GB hard drive for $398.

Meanwhile, cellular startup TheCheapPhoneShop promises deep
discounts on smart and feature phones through its partnerships with Amazon.com
and Wirefly, the consumer arm of master agent and online services provider
Simplexity. The site offers phones and plans from all major carriers as well as
free delivery, usually overnight.

“We’re really trying to spread the
word about how much time and money people can save by buying phones online,”
said founder Michael Anthony. “Ordering phones online is the future — once
people see how easy it can be and how much better the entire selection process
can be, they will never go to a brick-and-mortar store again,” he said.
