SIM2/Dolby Show Pro LED LCD TV

Amsterdam, The Netherlands — SIM2 Multimedia and Dolby Laboratories are showing the latest iteration of SIM2’s Solar Series LED-based LCD TVs featuring Dolby Vision high-dynamic range (HDR) local dimming technology at this week’s Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) Show, here.

SIM2 said it plans to make the first unit — a model earmarked for professional distribution — will be available in

the second quarter of 2009. A consumer version is slated for a formal launch at CEDIA Expo, held Sept. 9-13.

The unit on display this week features a 47-inch screen size. The Dolby Vision system used in the product features a proprietary algorithm that manages LEDs behind the liquid crystal panel.

Each LED is controlled individually in concert with the image on display. By selectively turning off the backlight behind black areas in scenes, Dolby Vision allows those areas to become truly black.

Dolby Vision also has the ability to selectively brighten the backlight behind bright areas.

The Solar Series display will handle 16-bit processing for HDR signals, and produces 65,536 shades per color.

The display offers FullHD 1,920 by 1080p resolution and uses 2,206 high-power LEDs to produce peak brightness of 4,000 cd/m2. The contrast ratio (full on/full off) produces an more than 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, the company said.
