Sharp, Mets Reach TV, Community-Interest Deal

Flushing, N.Y. — Sharp Electronics said Tuesday it has reached a multiyear agreement with the New York Mets to outfit the team’s new CitiField stadium with Aquos LCD TVs and to collaborate on a community outreach program.

Sharp, which is already the official HDTV of Major League Baseball, is supplying more than 800 Aquos LCD HDTVs to be installed throughout CitiField’s concourses, restaurants, club spaces and more than 200,000 square feet of event space.

Sharp said it will also mount one of its 108-inch class LCD TVs in the stadium’s main lobby.

Sharp will receive significant in-game branding at CitiField, including rotational signage, permanent signage on the center field scoreboard, in-game video features and a presence on the Mets.com Web site.

Sharp will also take an active role in the Mets’ community outreach efforts off the field as title sponsor of the Mets/Sharp Electronics Student-Athlete Leadership Conference Series. The program trains more than 1,200 student-athletes from 30 Long Island high schools to provide drug- and alcohol-abuse prevention education to more than 15,000 grade school children.
