Sears Starts Appliance Sales On Website

Sears began selling major appliances over the Internet today.

Three months after announcing its e-commerce plans for majaps, the retailer's web site is now offering more than 2,000 brand name refrigerators and freezers, built-in and freestanding cooking products, dishwashers, washers and dryers and select microwaves. Prices are the same as those in conventional Sears stores, and delivery, which is expected to take three to seven days, will cost $35 per order.

"Launching appliances online is a major step forward in Sears' strategy to be the definitive online source for the home," said Alice M. Peterson, vice president and general manger of Sears Online. She added that the company has the assortment, brands, service and infrastructure to "deliver to our customers what they want, when they want it."

Majaps joins a growing online assortment for Sears that currently includes Craftsmen tools and replacement parts.
