Satellite TV Providers Hike Fees

New York — Both Dish Network and DirecTV announced in recent days plans to raises subscription fees in for 2014.

Most package tiers from both providers will see monthly cost hikes of between $2 to $5.

In both cases, rate hikes were attributed to rising content costs.

DirecTV’s fees will climb and average of 4.4 percent with the base “Entertainment” package climbing $3 to $58 per month, while the top-end “Premier” will increase $5 to $130 per month.

Dish’s fees will rise 5.5 percent next year, but will not be applied to all of its packages. Dish’s entry basic Welcome plan ($20), and America’s Choice 120+ plan ($60) not see a rate hike, but most other plans will see a $5 monthly fee hike. The “Smart Pack,” price will rise $3 to $33 next year.
