Sanyo Bows HD Camcorder

Chatsworth, Calif. — Sanyo said it would ship a new high-definition, flash-memory-based camcorder to dealers in July.

The Xacti HD1010 records MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 video at 1,920 by 1080i/60 fps to SDHC memory cards. It features a new slow-motion video mode that records video at 300 fps.

The unit can also snap 4-megapixel still images and offers a 7 fps burst mode. A face detection/face chaser can be used in both stills and videos to locate up to 12 faces at a time and adjust brightness and focus accordingly.

Additional features include a 10x optical zoom (38mm to 280mm, 35mm equivalent), f1.8-2.5 lens, digital stabilization, a 2.7-inch widescreen display, HDMI output and Web cam capability. It also offers manual controls, a pop-up flash and two-channel audio recording.

The HD1010 will ship with a docking station that will connect the unit to a computer, TV (via composite, component, S-video or optional HDMI cable), or DVD player while recharging its battery.

It will retail for $799.
