SanDisk Secures USB Drive

Malpitas, Calif. — Flash-memory maker SanDisk said it is now shipping a secure USB drive suitable for enterprise and government use.

The Cruzer Enterprise FIPS edition features security certified by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) through its Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) program, according to SanDisk. They join the existing Cruzer Enterprise line of business-oriented flash drives.

To ensure data security, the Cruzer drives feature a software self-test routine that automatically runs whenever the drive is powered up, to verify the drive’s cryptographic function is intact. The drives are protected from physical tampering and incorporate mandatory encryption keys that never leave the drive.

The drives offer a read speed of 24MBps and a write speed of 20MBps and ship with SanDisk’s Central Management & Control (CMC) software, which offers password recovery and renewal, remote termination of lost drives, and central backup, among other features.

FIPS edition drives will be sold in 1GB, 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities for $87, $144, $217 and $385, respectively.
