SanDisk Debuts 64GB CF Card

SanDisk has launched a line of high-capacity, high-speed CF cards that are aimed at professional photographers.

The Extreme Pro memory cards boast read and write speeds of 90Mbps, which are double than the company’s previously fastest cards.

When setting out to create a new high-performance CF card, SanDisk consulted with a variety of professional photographers to gauge their specific needs, Susan Park, SanDisk retail product marketing director, told TWICE.

“As we talked to sports photographers and their needs … they are really in the need for speed. If you look at the wildlife or nature photography, they could be in extreme temperature or extreme conditions, so they are in need for reliability. If you look at wedding, they are in need of reliability and speed,” she said.

As a result of the information received, SanDisk engineered the Extreme Pro cards so they carried these “three pillars,” Park said: speed, reliability/durability and capacity.

All of the Extreme Pro CF cards — currently shipping in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities — feature the company’s Power Core Controller, which is said to ensure the faster read and write speeds.

They can reportedly operate at temperatures ranging from -13 to 185F, and at up to 90 percent humidity. Suggested retails will range from $300 to $800.

SanDisk also introduced a memory card reader — the Extreme Pro ExpressCard Adapter — for $49.99, which will be available in late October. The company also introduced a line of Extreme CF cards, which will be offered in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB at read/write speeds of 60Mbps. Prices for these cards will range from $130 to $375.
