SanDisk Adds Ruggedized Hard Drive

Milpitas, Calif. – SanDisk has
introduced the Memory Vault, the first product in a new category of devices
from the company designed for long-term data preservation of digital photos and
video.

The external flash-based USB drive boasts
a low-profile ruggedized metallic design. It utilizes SanDisk’s Chronolock
technology, which incorporates key elements of advanced solid-state storage to
create a proprietary memory management solution, the company said.

SanDisk conducted accelerated
temperature cycling tests that simulated the effects of data retention over
long periods of time to show the Memory Vault will preserve data for up to 100
years.

The SanDisk Memory Vault comes in
8GB and 16GB capacities carrying suggested retails of $49.99 and $89.99,
respectively.
