Samsung Updates Galaxy Models

New York - Samsung Mobile today introduced its Galaxy Tab 2 tablets
and Galaxy Player 4.2.

New today are the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and 7.0 and the Galaxy
Player 4.2. The Galaxy Player 3.6 was introduced earlier this week.

All three new devices are Wi-Fi only, and as with Samsung's
previous models, offer customers a differentiated experience with the Tab,
Player and Note devices, said Travis Merrill, Samsung's marketing director for
Galaxy products.

The Tab 2 10.1 and 7.0 feature 10.1- and 7-inch displays.
The 10.1 will be available for pre-order starting May 4 and in stores on May 13
with a $399 suggested retail. The 7.0 can be pre-ordered on April 12 and ships
on April 22 at $249.

The $199 Player 4.2 has the same pre-order and ship date as
the 10.1.

"We priced them aggressively in the market to make them as
accessible as possible," Merrill said.

Price was also the reason Samsung opted to go with a TFT
display instead of AMOLED, he said.

The Tabs ship with Android 4.0. Each has a 1GHz dual-core
processor, front and rear cameras, MicroSD slot and a built-in IR blaster.

The 10.1 has 16GB of memory and front-facing speakers, and  is HDMI compatible. The 7.0 has 8GB of memory.

Since tablets are frequently used by consumers while
watching TV, the new Tabs can also be used as a remote control. Using Samsung's
Smart Remote app in conjunction with its IR blaster, the 10.1 and 7.0 can be
configured to operate most home entertainment devices and set-top boxes. It
also offers a programming guide, and they can be set up to operate devices all
around the home.

The Player 4.2 is part of Samsung's ongoing effort to grab
share in the portable, Wi-Fi-enabled music player market now dominated by the
Apple iPod touch.

Merrill said there is a great deal of opportunity for an
Android device in this space, and that Samsung's previous Player device did
meet company expectations for sales. This was despite the soft launch it was
initially given.

The 4.2 is running Android 2.3 and is powered by a Cortex A8
1GHz processor. It also has a MicroSD slot, gyro-sensor, front speakers and is
bundled with the full version of Angry Birds, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, and
FIFA 2012.
