unveiled Sunday its new
direction in camera design – a hybrid mirror-less model with an SLR-like
interchangeable lens system.
The Samsung NX10 hybrid digital still camera is the company’s answer to Micro Four Thirds cameras offered by competitors. The design is said to present a more compact camera with the versatility and functionality of a digital SLR.
The NX10 will include a 14.6-megapixel APS sized sensor
(CMOS type), that is said to be 40 percent larger than sensors used in competitive
Micro Four Thirds models for greater resolution.
It will record video in up to 720p HD resolution 30 fps using
the H.264 codec. To support video playback on TV screens, the camera includes a
built-in HDMI port.
The camera includes a highly accurate advanced video AF system
with speed up to 200ms.
To keep images sharp, Samsung included a Supersonic Dust
Reduction system that shakes the image sensor up to 60,000 times per second to
remove dust.
The NX10 will be equipped with a 3-inch AMOLED screen, and
will have access to an array of K-mount interchangeable lenses, including a
50-200mm zoom, an 18-55mm zoom, and a 30mm fixed focal length.
The AMOLED technology is said to provide easier viewing in
bright sunshine and at acute viewing angles, meaning users no longer need to
shield their screen with their hand. The screen also provides 10,000 times
faster response rate than conventional LCDs, has lower power consumption and a
higher contrast ratio – 10,000:1 vs. 500:1.
The NX10 will also feature what Samsung calls “an ultra-precise electronic
viewfinder (EVF),” and built-in pop-up flash.
The camera is available in a choice of two colors, Noble
Black and Titan Silver, and is said to be small, light and ergonomically
designed “to
ensure maximum portability for everyday use.”
The camera body measures 4.84 inches by 3.43 inches by 1.53
inches and weighs 0.75 pounds without lens.
