Ridgefield Park, N.J.
- Samsung Electronics America introduced Wednesday a midrange 14.2-megapixel
digital point-and-shoot camera featuring a long 7x zoom lens.

Samsung unveiled its PL200 digital point-and-shoot camera featuring a 7x zoom lens and 14.2-megapixel resolution.

The PL200

just-announced next-generation DualView cameras
as the company's late-summer
camera introductions.

It combines such
popular features as 720p high-definition video recording, a 3-inch LCD screen
and a 7x zoom range.

"The PL200 is the
ideal digital camera for those who value simplicity but also long for a more
immersive digital imaging experience," said Reid Sullivan, Samsung mobile entertainment
marketing senior VP. "With the PL200, consumers can experience the versatility
offered by more advanced digital cameras, along with a comprehensive suite of
automatic controls, allowing them to step up to the next level of digital
camera without stepping outside of their comfort zone."

The PL200 measures
just 3.9 inches by 2.3 inches by 0.83 inches and offers a slim design style.

The 7x optical
zoom lens (35mm film equivalent focal length of 31mm-217mm) produces blur-free
images through the use of dual image stabilization technology, which combines
both optical and digital systems.

The 720p/30 fps HD
video captured by the camera is stored in H.264 format.

Automatic controls
include Smart Auto (for stills and video) scene-recognition technology, to
quickly analyze the current shooting environment and select the proper scene
mode and settings for the best results.

Other automatic
features include  Beauty Shot and Smile Shot
modes, blink detection and face detection.

A Smart Album
feature is also offered to help users manage image files.
