Samsung To Offer D/A TV Converter

3/14/2007 03:57:00 PM Eastern

Ridgefield Park, N.J. — Samsung joined the ranks of manufacturers announcing plans to market digital-to-analog TV converters that will qualify for $40 coupons under rules adopted by the U.S. Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration this week.

“Currently, Samsung’s DTB-H260F high definition terrestrial receiver gives consumers excellent quality over-the-air TV reception in a set top box for digital displays," said John Godfrey, Samsung Information Systems America government and public affairs VP. “We plan on following this with a digital-to-analog converter set top box in time for the start of NTIA’s coupon program in 2008, so consumers can not only continue to receive free over-the-air TV after the transition, but also enjoy improved, crystal-clear pictures.”

Samsung said that like Thomson and LG Electronics, which also announced plans this week to market qualifying converter boxes, it supports the digital TV transition rules issued by NTIA.

“These rules will provide much-needed certainty as consumers prepare for the end of the nation’s transition from analog to digital TV broadcasting on Feb. 17, 2009, when all analog broadcasts will cease,” according to a company statement.
