Ridgefield Park, N.J – Yangkyu
(Y.K.) Kim has been named president/CEO of Samsung Electronics America (SEA),
effective immediately.
He replaces C.S. Choi, who will
return to Korea as an executive advisor to Samsung’s global vice chairman and
CEO G.S. Choi.
In his new role, Kim is
responsible for overseeing the company’s operations in the U.S., Canada, and
Mexico.
Kim, a 24-year company veteran,
comes to SEA from Samsung Headquarters in Korea, where he held the position of senior
VP and head of global sales and marketing for the visual display business for
the past two years.
During that time the business
strengthened its position as the global market leader in televisions. Prior to
that assignment, Kim was head of mobile phone sales and marketing for Europe,
during which time Samsung’s mobile phone business achieved the No. 2 global
market share position.
