Basking Ridge, N.J. – Verizon
Wireless plans a Wednesday launch of the Samsung Illusion Android smartphone at
$79 through its online store with availability in carrier stores in January.
For a limited time beginning
Thanksgiving Day through Nov. 28, Verizon will sell the 3G phone online for
free with two-year service agreement.
Features include Android 2.3
OS, curved-glass display with Swype
text-entry technology, 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird application processor, HTML web
browser, 3-megapixel camera, Microsoft Office Exchange support, six-axis
accelerometer with compass, Bluetooth 3.0 with stereo Bluetooth, and MicroSD
card slot with support for up to 32GB. A 2 GB card is preinstalled. It also
features mobile hotspot capability to share a 3G connection with up to five
Wi-Fi-enabled 802.11a/b/g/n devices.
The rear casing and battery cover
are made from 70 percent post-consumer material, and 35 percent of the front
casing is post-consumer material, Samsung said.
Earlier
this year, Sprint also launched a $79 Samsung Android 2.3 phone with 1GHz
processor, the Samsung Transform Ultra.
