Samsung Adds Two Budget Digicams

Seoul, South Korea –

Samsung

introduced Monday two value-oriented compact cameras accentuating style and
simplicity.

Models PL20 (shipping in March at a $120 suggested retail) and
ES80 (shipping in April at a $100) offer several step-up options for entry-level
camera shoppers, including 5x optical zoom lenses starting at a 27mm wide-angle
focal range, and digital image stabilization technology.

It also includes Samsung’s Smart Filter technology — artistic
filters in modes such as fish-eye, miniature and sketch to easily add special
effects.

Both models are also available in four colors: silver, red, pink
and black.

The PL20 features a 14-megapixel CCD image sensor, and 720p/24 fps
HD movie recording. It is powered by a rechargeable li-ion battery.

The ES80 features a 12-megapixel CCD image sensor, perfect
portrait system, face detection, smile shot, blink detection, red-eye fix, self
portrait, beauty shot, object tracking AF and Smart Album.

In addition, an internal charging system in the ES80 helps ensure
that power isn’t lost as the image is captured.

 “The PL20 and ES80 are
fantastic point-and-shoot cameras, designed to create a fun and easy
photography experience which can be enjoyed by everyone,” said Hyunho Chung, Samsung
digital imaging business executive VP. “Together they make taking great
pictures simple and fun for any photographer, and are driven by our desire to
add value for users while retaining an affordable price. The PL20 and ES80 are
further evidence of Samsung’s commitment to meeting the needs of each and every
photographer out there, regardless of their level of expertise or their
budget.”

Both cameras include Samsung’s innovative Smart Auto that
automatically selects the correct setting for a variety of shooting situations.
