Samsung Adds Go-Anywhere Pocket Cam

4/20/2011 12:02:00 PM Eastern

Seoul, Korea - Samsung Electronics formally unveiled Wednesday a
new all-weather pocket video camera that is waterproof to 9 feet and capable of
up to 1080p/30fps HD video recording.

 W200

The Samsung W200 pocket cam (shipping in May with a $159
suggested retail) is billed as a go-anywhere camcorder with built-in 5.5
megapixel BSI CMOS sensor and a bright F2.2 1x lens to do dual-duty as a still
camera and HD video cam.

The pocket cam was said to have been created for those whose
active lifestyles demand both durability and quality. In addition to repelling
the elements the tiny video cam is dust-proof and shock resistant.

The W200's anti-water drop coating enables the LCD screen to stay
free of condensation, while the lens adds an anti-fog coating that lets steam
disperse enabling clear, blur-free videos.

For underwater recording, the camcorder includes an Aqua Mode
setting, which automatically sets the ideal parameters for bright and clear
underwater video.

The W200 comes with a built-in USB arm for easy connection to a
PC and HDMI port for a connection to an HD TV or monitor.

Components in the camera include a 5-megapixel Back Side
Illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor, with double the sensitivity of previous CMOS
sensors for reduced image noise and distortion, SD/SDHC card slot, digital
image stabilization, Full HD resolution and a 2.3-inch 230,000 dot LCD screen.

A Record Pause feature allows users to pause briefly during
filming and then resume from the exact same spot. When filming is complete,
footage will all be in the same file, removing the need to merge multiple files
for faster and easier uploading.

Two special Smart Filter features include: vignetting, which
allows users to fade the edges of shots and Fish-Eye, which creates an arty,
distorted feel to images.

"The W200 is the ideal Pocket Cam for anyone who wants to
experience life to the fullest and share those experiences with friends and family,"
said Hyunho Chung, Samsung digital imaging business executive VP. "It's tough
enough for filming a backpacking trip or vacation with small children, and
light enough to carry around with you every day, so that you never miss a
moment. We've used the latest in Samsung technology to make sure that you're
able to capture a faithful memory of your experiences, wherever you go. The
W200 is the Pocket Cam that you'd never want to leave at home - it's reliable
and easy to use, whatever adventure you're setting out on."
