Runco Unveils 2.35:1 In-Wall DLP System

9/10/2008 04:15:00 PM Eastern

Denver — Held back for several days from Runco International’s other CEDIA Expo line introductions was one the industry’s first home theater displays to feature the 2.35:1 aspect ratio.

Runco’s CineWall CW-95HD features screen dimensions that will eliminate the black bars seen at the top and bottom of many CinemaScope feature films encoded onto DVD and Blu-ray Discs.

Runco’s CineWall CW-95HD ($49,995) will be among the first displays with a 2.35.:1 aspect ratio.

The screen dimensions, which are wider and narrower than conventional 16:9 HDTVs, are favored by many Hollywood producers and directors.

The CW-95HD, which will ship in November at a $49,995 suggested retail, is part of Runco’s CineWall family, meaning it is a two-piece 1080p DLP rear-projection system designed for in-wall installations. It will allow a 95-inch screen size, measured diagonally.

Once installed, the system presents a screen with the sleek look of a flat-panel display and the big-screen picture performance attributes of a high-performance DLP front projection system.

The package is said to be easy to install and integrate, requiring less than 33 inches of depth behind the screen for projector placement.

Key features include 1,920 by 817p native HD resolution, Runco’s SuperOnyx DMD chipset with ConstantContrast frame-by-frame contrast correction, a CinOptx lens system with O-Path; Vivix II internal processing and CineWide technology.

Runco’s CineWall in-wall projection system is said to reduce ambient light glare by 20 times with a contrast ratio that is 300 percent greater than standard flat panels. A passive cooling system allows for quiet operation. The unit is said to require 20 percent of the power of similarly sized flat panels.

The CW-95HD system includes an "InstallerDependent design" with an ISFccc calibration controls suite and HDMI w/HDCP, DVI w/HDCP, Component (RCA), HD-15 (PC), S-Video, Composite and RS-232 connectivity.
