Rovi Reveals Pantech, RIM Deals

2/27/2012 12:32:34 PM Eastern

Barcelona, Spain - Rovi used the Mobile World Congress here to
announce partnerships with RIM and Pantech related to improved content streaming
on mobile devices.

The company said that the Rovi Entertainment Store solution for
entertainment storefront creation and management powers the new Video Store
movie service on BlackBerry PlayBook, offering consumers access to a broad
catalog of film and TV entertainment, including same-day home release titles.

The company also said that Pantech Wireless, the U.S.-based
subsidiary of one of South Korea's largest mobile phone manufacturers, has
certified the Android-based Pantech Element tablet to run DivX HD encoded
content. The Pantech Element is available through AT&T.

DivX HD will help the device take advantage of faster mobile
network speeds to watch high-quality video, while supporting efficient battery
usage and interoperability with other certified devices.

Certified DivX HD devices will play back both personal and
protected premium video content in the DivX (DIVX and AVI) format, offering
video resolutions up to 720p.

Meanwhile, RIM's Video Store is initially available with
BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 in the United States, and is expected to be followed
by launches in additional countries later this year.

With Video Store on the BlackBerry PlayBook users will be able to
view content within a few moments of beginning to download.

The Rovi Entertainment Store enables retailers, service providers,
CE manufacturers, content owners and PC makers to quickly launch over-the-top
storefronts that enable consumers to discover, purchase, manage, and enjoy a
broad range of new movies and TV shows on multiple platforms and devices.

Rovi Entertainment Store includes white-label storefronts and
playback client SDKs, cloud services, as well as content licensing, management
and marketing services.

The solution can be deployed as a complete end-to-end solution to
support all aspects of storefront deployment and management, or as individual
components that can be used to enhance an existing service.
