Rovi, Nuance Team On Voice-Controlled EPGs

5/21/2012 11:15:31 AM Eastern

 Boston - Electronic
program guide (EPG) developer Rovi and voice-activiated software creator Nuance
Communications are using the Cable Show here this week to announce a
collaboration on voice-activated discovery and guidance applications for cable
service providers and CE manufacturers.

Nuance said it
has licensed and will be integrating Rovi's
rich entertainment data with Dragon TV to provide TV manufacturers and cable
service providers the ability to access the variety of Rovi-indexed content for
TV shows, movies, and cast and crew details just by speaking.

Dragon TV is Nuance's voice- and language-understanding platform
for set-top boxes and connected TV devices.

Nuance and Rovi are also developing a new application that
integrates Dragon TV with Rovi's guide technology to enable spoken commands to
change the channel, browse, bookmark and search for content on both live and On
Demand TV programming.

Viewers, for example, will be able to say, "Find comedies with
Adam Sandler," and even call up a list of currently playing or soon-to-play

The companies are demonstration the technology this week at the
Rovi booth.
