RIM: Q1 BlackBerry Sales Slower Than Planned

Waterloo, Canada – Research In
Motion lowered its first-quarter guidance, citing slower than expected
BlackBerry sales and a shift in the sales mix to lower priced models.

The company expects smartphone sales for the
quarter ending May 28 to be at the lower end of the 13.5-14.5 million range
that it forecast in March. Total revenues will be “slightly below” the
$5.2-5.6 billion previously forecast, the company said.

The quarter’s forecast shipments
of the BlackBerry PlayBook “continue to be in line with our previous expectations,”
the company said. RIM also said it hasn’t experienced “any significant supply
disruptions” in the quarter because of the twin Japan disasters.
