RIM Intros Blackberry Tour

Waterloo, Ontario — Smartphone competition continues to heat up as Research In Motion (RIM) announced the new BlackBerry Tour for CDMA users allowing worldwide 3G access.

Following recent smartphone introductions from rivals Apple, Palm and Samsung, RIM showed the new Tour, which appears to aim at professional and general consumer users.

Due this summer, reportedly through Verizon and Sprint, the new “world phone” has a 2.44-inch display with the highest resolution available on a Blackberry phone (480 by 360 resolution at 245 ppi), said RIM. The phone supports EV-DO Rev. A in North America and UMTS/HSPA (2100Mhz) and quad-band EDGE/GPRS/GSM networks abroad.

The Tour has built-in GPS and a 3.2 megapixel camera with flash, variable zoom, video recording and other features. Available in black with chrome highlights it also has a music and video media player and stereo Bluetooth plus 256MB of flash memory.

Other features include a full-QWERTY keyboard, and easy access to Web sites including Facebook, MySpace and Flickr, and to popular instant messaging services including Yahoo! IM, AIM, Google Talk and Windows Live Messenger and BlackBerry Messenger.
